Tory Burch Just Nailed the Date Night Ponytail

In a New York show season flush with velvet, it’s hard to choose one sumptuous confection over another, although there have certainly been some early favorites: Ulla Johnson’s burnt-orange halter gown (with cross-back tie straps!) and Joseph Altuzarra’s purple velvet frock with beaded floral embellishments, to name a few. But each piece comes with the pain and anguish of a seasonal production schedule that means it will be months before we’ll be able to touch, feel, and incite jealousy with any of them. Luckily, Tory Burch presented a real-time velvet fix at her collection this morning with a length of black velvet ribbon that backstage pro Guido Palau tied around low-slung ponytails with a slight asymmetrical flop.

“It’s just a really soft, really pretty look that’s very romantic,” Palau said, noting the importance of starting with freshly washed hair so that top-billed catwalk stars, like Taylor Hill, Vittoria Ceretti, and Frederikke Sofie’s strands had a lightweight airiness to thuem out the gate.
